VEMS Build

I brought the VEMS V3.3 some years ago and have only got round to building it. I have to say that technically the VEMS is superior to the Megasquirt but I just hate the documentation ! The Megasquirt has it all over the VEMS.

The Wiki at www.vems.hu is useful, I much prefer the Wikimedia formatting, but the worst thing is that the documentation is all over the place, conflicting and confusing. I guess once you’ve sorted it out, it makes the second time easier. I ended up making my own manuals by copying bits from Word, formatting and making PDF’s.

So probably about 6 hours so far, I’ve only managed to solder 2 links, but I think I know what I’m doing now, so as soon as I solve my immediate problem it should go rather quickly.

So my requirements are :

  • 4 cylinder
  • EDIS missing tooth VR sensor
  • EDIS Coil pack
  • Croma injectors (High-Z)
  • off-board map
  • Wideband Oxygen to help with tuning

So far, it looks like I need 4 FETS for the injectors, another FET for the WB02, and 4 IGBT’s for the coil pack.

So in order I’ve :

  • installed D45 power link (used for stepper motor, which I don’t have installed but is easier to install the link now if I need it later)
  • installed F1, I didn’t end up using fuse wire as its a little hard to come by, so I’ll use a 1 amp fuse externally

Coming up to do

  • install power inductor (mine is marked 3R3 but instructions say 1R5 so just checking on this)
  • install VR Sensor links
  • install FET’s and IGBT’s
  • install Econoseal connectors
  • install flyback lead
  • install map lead
  • one-wire lead
  • RS232 connections
  • GND reinforcement
  • Test

We’ll see how it all goes
