Miller Spectrum 625 Plasma Cutter Cup Microswitch

The cup microswitch on my Miller Spectrum 625 ICE-40C torch head started playing up, the cup light would come on and stay on despite there being new consumeables in the torch. So I pulled it apart to find that the microswitch had failed, but it had obviously done that before because it was an obvious fix with a non-standard part by some technician previously.

So I set to try to find the right replacement parts.

I contacted Miller in the States who were not helpful, other than suggesting I buy a new torch for $499, and probably another $100-$200 for shipping. They suggested I contact Hypertherm, who make the torch for Miller, they too were unhelpful (how hard is it to open a torch head and tell me the part number of the microswitch) so I had to figure it out for myself.

Here is what worked for me :

Microswitch : Omron Ultra Sub Miniature J-7 (Mine cost $NZ18, its $US11 from Mouser or Digikey)

There are two different size screws holding this down (I assume this is the way it came from the factory)

The smaller screw is a 0-80 Unified Screw Thread, the larger is a 2-56 screw.

I hope this helps someone … all I need to do now is figure out a replacement for the trigger.
