CNC 6040

Kia ora koutou,

A few months back I brought a CNC6040 to mill a range of materials from foam, to PCB boards to aluminum.

After discussions with Walter from the cncdiy site, I purchased the 6040 from the range of models.

The purchase went smoothly however I ran into a few problems …

– I ordered the 0.8kw VFD but it didn’t come with the mounting bracket or the cable. Walter immediately dispatched the missing items, it would have been nice to have checked the items before dispatch.

– before long the VFD that was shipped begun to play up, it would only run for a few minutes before stopping. This was the LBD-M280-2S0015. After discussion, the cost of the VFD was refunded and instead I purchased a Huan Yang 1.5kw inverter from eBay. This is a much better (and bigger) unit. No problems so far.

The other issue I had was that the VFD caused the steppers to move randomly. This was solved by using shielded cable and grounding the table.

I also needed to set up the cooling system for the spindle.. I’ll post a blog about the cooling system I mounted on the gantry.

Since purchasing my system, cncdiy now offers additional components including the 1.5kw spindle , the Huan Yang VFD and a pump for the cooling system .. Worthwhile add-ons in my opinion
